Hard to believe but true: Gianni, Nino and I are in Italy!!!!!!!!
We flew out last night at 8:30 p.m. from Toronto. I was exhausted because I was too excited to sleep much the night before. Luckily the plane was half empty so I got three middle seast to myself in the back and slept at least 6 hours. Maybe 7. It was wonderful. Gianni and Nino wern't so lucky - they stayed (for some crazy reason) in our original seats near a baby, who apparently cried for hours (I didn't hear a thing). Gianni slept 1 hour, Nino slept a couple. They're both sleeping now.
Our hostel is BEAUTIFUL - better than I could have ever imagined. It's directly across from the beach, so I spent a couple hours this afternoon in the sun. When Nino and I walked on the beach the first site we saw was way to Italian: 3 hairy chested men sitting under an orange umbrella. Very nice.
Not speaking Italian is really frustrating for all us of already. Unfortunately we forgot one of our phrase books at home and the one we have is falling apart already, but we're trying to piece sentences together anyway. We can't wait for the lessons to start!
Gianni and I learned an important phrase this afternoon: Vorrei un panino con salame - I would like a salame sandwhich :-) To be honest, it tasted just like the ones at home, but it was delicious. I also learned the word for towel, but that's about it. Tomorrow should be interesting since we're travelling from the outskirts of Rome to Florence on the bus, subway and train and I don't know the words for any of those things! Oh well, sink or swim I guess. Reminds me of the position I was in 5 years ago with Spanish.
Our big plan for tonight is to watch Glatiator at the in house movie theater, if Gianni and Nino ever wake up. Gotta get pumped for the Colleseum next week!
That's the big update for today. I'm sure Nino and Gianni's contributions will be much more entertaining.
Arrivederci!
